Join us in commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day with Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Ellen Germain and NMAD’s Collection Manager Eric Duyck.
Germain will discuss U.S. foreign policy and the Holocaust as both a universal lesson and how it has served for many as motivation to make a career in public service. Duyck will introduce one of the museum’s artifacts and the story of Robert Neumann – Holocaust survivor and future U.S. ambassador. The program will launch a series on the Special Envoy for Holocaust Issue’s social media channels featuring current U.S. diplomats like U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken who are descendants or family members of Holocaust survivors.
Diplomacy Classroom is a monthly virtual event presented by the National Museum of American Diplomacy where we explore diplomacy through a historical event, person, or contemporary global issue.
This event will be live-streamed on our website. To get updates on this program and information on future programs, RSVP in advance through the form at the bottom of the page.

Fighting modern antisemitism — a discussion with Jewish LGBTQ+ leaders:

Ben M. Freeman, Eve Barlow & Blake Flayton!

Featuring an introduction,

from Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Idan Roll

An incredible number of our boldest and most effective fighters against antisemitism are LGBTQ+. By taking on their own political and cultural ‘homes’, they have been subject to attacks and threats, and yet they have continued their work at great personal cost.

Ben M. Freeman, Eve Barlow and Blake Flayton are among the Jewish world’s most prominent educators, writers, and activists. Join us, as they share their expertise in cultural antisemitism, their own experiences, what brought them into their work, and their unique and powerful ideas and tactics, in an online panel moderated by writer David Sachs. In what way have the panelists’ experiences in the LGBTQ+ community helped them as Jewish advocates?

Ben M. Freeman is a Jewish leader, thinker, and educator.

Eve Barlow is a Scottish freelance music journalist based in LA.

Blake Flayton is a recent graduate of George Washington University and the co-founder of New Zionist Congress.

Vilnius Jewish Cemetery Šnipškės/Piramont 2) Silvia Foti

The first is the US State Department’s 2020 Report on Religious Freedom
in Lithuania.  It appears to be a summary of news reports and
specifically mentions Defending History regarding the Cemetery:
https://www.state.gov/reports/2020-report-on-international-religious-freedom/lithuania/

The second is Silvia Foti’s write-up of her trip to Lithuania at the end
of October, 2021
https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/last-trip-showed-hope-lithuania-might-take-deeper-look-at-its-role-in-holocaust/
She met with the US Ambassador.  He told her that he spends half his
time on the Holocaust.

That is good news because the previous US Ambassador was active in
supporting the egregious Lithuanian state policy.

“Courage means first off, the unqualified rejection of lies. Do not speak untruths, either about yourself or anyone else, no matter the comfort offered the mob. And do not genially accept the lies told to you. If possible, be vocal in rejecting claims you know to be false. Courage can be contagious, and your example may serve as a means of transmission.”

Not With a Bang, But a Whimper
By Hussein Aboubakr Mansour | December 30, 2021

To say that hopes were high in December 2020 would be an understatement. With a new presidential administration promising a return to decency, good tweeting, and with COVID vaccinations in the works, the world was betting on 2021 to be the year of a great American comeback, when Americans were going to summon their great revivalist spirit in order to “Build Back Better.”
